SOUTH BEND - A Howard Williams, age 67, of South Bend, passed away at home on Thursday morning. Howard, an attorney, was the Legal Deputy for many Sheriffs in Indiana. He practiced under A H Williams & Associates and was of Counsel for Doran Blackmond Norton, LLC. He was also a former partner in Doran, Blackmond, Ready, Hamilton & Williams, Williams & Eslinger, P.C., and Patrick, McDonald, Donnelly, Warter & Williams.

Howard was born January 13, 1950 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Aubrey Howard and Bernice (Morris) Williams and has lived in the South Bend area much of his life. On August 1, 1981 in South Bend he married Barbe (Walton) Williams who survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Sara Elizabeth Williams, and son, Mark Woodworth Williams, both of South Bend.

Howard's sister, Sara Kingston, and brother, Jean, preceded him in death.

Howard graduated from Culver Military Academy, Indiana University, Bloomington and the University of Notre Dame School of Law (1976). He also was a graduate from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and was a Certified Master Instructor for the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.

Howard was admitted to the Bar in 1976 and admitted to represent clients in all Indiana State Courts, U.S. Federal District Courts, the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court.

Memberships include: National Sheriffs' & Indiana Sheriffs' Associations, Single Action Shooting Society, Indiana State Bar Association, Indiana Trial Lawyers' Association, St. Joseph County Bar Association, National Tactical Officers Association, American Jail Association, Fraternal Order of Police St. Joseph County Lodge #155, NRA Life Member and International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, Inc. Howard was also a National Champion as a marksman in the Small Bore Rifle Division.

There will be no services. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Palmer Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
