NEW CARLISLE, IN - Dean Franklin Morehouse, 93, of New Carlisle, passed away on Sunday August 5, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born on May 27, 1925, in South Bend, to the late James Franklin and Corrine (Langdon-Beck) Morehouse and was a lifelong area resident. On June 25, 1955 he married Lucile Szczodrowski, who survives. Also surviving are his three daughters, Doris Sawday of Glendale, AZ, Susan (Tom) Baker and Rosann Morehouse, both of New Carlisle; his son, James Dean Morehouse of Scottsville, KY; six grandchildren, Sarah, Thomas, Christopher, Quinn, Kennedy, and Kyle; two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Jewels; one great-grandson, Dawson; two sisters, Alwilda Vance of South Bend and Mary Lou Baker of Niles, MI; a brother, William Morehouse (Carole DeSteffano) of South Bend; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Ethel Morehouse Dawson, Esther Morehouse Hardy, Viola Morehouse Gondeck, Ruth Morehouse, Leona Morehouse, Louise Armstrong Spriggs, and Ellen Mae Armstrong Seamen; and by five brothers, George Morehouse, Harold Morehouse Guilfoos, Richard Morehouse, John Morehouse, and Jack “Bud” Armstrong. Dean was a Storekeeper at Bendix Allied for 40 years, before retiring in 1986. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #297, New Carlisle, a Parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Terre Coupee, a UAW Steward, and was very active in the Democratic Clubs in Roseland and New Carlisle. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2018 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church (meet directly at church). Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, with full Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the or to Darden Home, 20907 Darden Rd., South Bend, IN 46628.
