SOUTH BEND - Louis A. Ciesielski, 93, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 in Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

Louis was born July 14, 1924 in South Bend to the late Stanley and Rose (Walkowiak) Ciesielski. Louis was also preceded in death by his brothers, Harry, Joseph, Casimir, & William Ciesielski; and a sister, Dorothy Kozlowski.

On June 10, 1950 Louis married his loving wife, Jeanette (DeWispelaere) Ciesielski; she survives along with their three sons, Dominic (Cheryl) Ciesielski, Mark Ciesielski, and Paul (Terry) Ciesielski; grandchildren, Emily, Peter, and Sara; great-granddaughters, Kylin and Sopheria; sisters, Verna (Deacon Ervin) Kuspa and Mary (Norbert) Gapczynski; and a brother, Leo (Linda) Ciesielski.

Louis honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a radio man on Tinian and Saipan. Louis graduated in 1950 from the University of Notre Dame. He won many contests as a proud and loyal paperboy in his younger years; he also worked for Studebakers, and the Welfare Department, then retired from the Uniroyal Corporation after 36 years. Louis was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, where he was on the Parish Council, Church Restoration Fund Committee, and member of the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus, Harvest House, Eucharistic Minister, and a Scout and Cub master for Boy Scouts for 17 years. Louis started the Cub Scouts at St. Adalbert's and received the St. George Catholic Scouting Award in 1964. He was the past district council president for the St. Vincent de Paul Society for over 60 years, the moderator for the Polonaise Club at the Forever Learning Center, a member of the Medjuagori Prayer Group, and a member of PNA and American Legion Post 357. Louis received the Achievement Forum Man of the Year award in 1984 and the 20 gallon donation award from the South Bend Central Blood Blank. Louis was very proud of his Polish heritage and his family genealogy. His favorite past times were bingo at St. Paul's twice a week, crossword puzzles, solitaire and scratch off lottery tickets he received as gifts.

Visitation will be held 3:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 4:00pm. A Mass of Christian Entombment will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, June 14, 2018 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
