Feb. 23, 1939 - June 5, 2018

NILES - Robert C. Fretz Sr. entered God's Eternal Kingdom at his home in the early morning of June 5, 2018, succumbing to the Agent Orange and Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 79. Originally from Niles, Michigan, he was a long-time resident of Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach. A small service will be held at Ft. Barrancas National Cemetery on June 29, at 11:30. Following in the footsteps of his father, Robert Fretz Sr. was a Methodist and Master Mason 32nd Degree, Past Master of Pokagon Lodge #136 in Pokagon, Michigan, and a current member of Peninsular Lodge #10 F. & A.M. in Dowagiac, Michigan. He was recognized for 50 years of membership by the Supreme Council in 2011. He enlisted in the United States Airforce and was assigned as an Illuminator Operator - Instructor aboard the AC-119k (Stinger) Gunship with the 14th SOW - 18th SOS, Hurlburt Field, Florida and was deployed to Vietnam. Sgt. Fretz retired with 22 yrs. of unbending dedication and devotion to his country. Robert Fretz was very active in the Boy Scouts of America - Scout Master Troop 72, Eglin, FL and 134, Johnsonville, NC. Robert Fretz was the Veteran Service Officer at his American Legion Post 240 and State Recognized for his efforts in processing Veterans Claims with the VA and finding Emergency Financial Assistance in times of desperate need. Robert should be remembered for this “service to others - before service to self” always willing to assist neighbors, strangers, family, and friends, and for his untiring devotion to Veterans. And living - James 2:14-26 I leave behind my deeds and help to you and your family. Give back to others, care for those around you. Provide for your family and direct your children in helping others and you will have made your mark upon the earth. It is a rich man who falls asleep knowing that he has given of self for his neighbors' good and gain.Robert Fretz Sr. was preceded in death by father, Lewis Russell Fretz; mother, Pansy Ruth Cox-Fretz; and infant son, Eric Fretz. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Billie Fretz; two sons, Robert Fretz Jr. of Pensacola, FL and David Fretz of Enterprise, AL; and twin sisters, Sharon McKnight of Niles, Michigan and Sheila Anders of Dowagiac, Michigan as well as multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donations to the are recommended in lieu of flowers.
