WAKARUSA - Robert Johnson, age 99, of Miller's Senior Living Community in Wakarusa died at 2:53 pm, Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Elkhart Hospice House. He was born March 13, 1919 in Mishawaka to John and Hazel (Godshall) Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a United States Navy veteran of WWII. He was a TV repairman for over 50 years. He was the owner of Hill Top TV in Mishawaka. He also trained labs for hunters.

While living at Millers' Senior Living at the age of 90, he learned to play the harmonica, mandolin, ukulele, and the banjo and became involved with Blue Grass Bands. He played for schools, the nursing home, and special veterans' events. Mr. Johnson was a 32nd degree Mason of Masonic Lodge #45, South Bend for over 60 years.

On September 4, 1937, he married Barbara Cindric in South Bend. She preceded him in death December 5, 2014. They were married for over 75 years.

Survivors are daughters, Monta Penrod of Millersburg and Judy (Roger) Redman of Osceola; son, James (Lang) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Karen (Mike) Gardner, Pamela Penrod, Tammy Salamon, Laurie (Tim) Dill, and Roger (ex-wife, Jodi) Redman Jr.; great-grandchildren, Brandon (Kristina) Redman, Josh (Bridgette) Redman, Oscar Redman, Ted & Tyler Salamon, Brooke (Simon) Baumgartner, William & Nicholas Penrod, and Savanna Dill; great-great-grandchildren, Joycee, Hank, and Annabelle Redman, Scarlett and Dylan Redman, and Veronica Maxine Baumgartner; niece, Jennie Olis; and many Blue Grass friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; son, Larry Dean Johnson, who died while serving in Vietnam; and son-in-law, Larry Penrod

Family and friends may call from 2-8 Friday, June 15, 2018 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa, where Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 16. Burial with Military Graveside Honors will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Memorial contributions may be given to Wounded Warriors.
