SOUTH BEND, IN - Roy E. Kipp passed away at the age of 100 on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. He was born on September 30, 1917 to Thomas and Tillie Kipp in Mishawaka, IN. He married Virginia Hall in 1942. This marriage ended in 1956. They had one daughter, JoAnn. Roy married Marie Meszaros in 1962. She died on December 26, 1982. In 1985, he married Olive Duchatelet who died in 1988.

Roy joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and was trained as a medic and ambulance driver. As a medic, he aided many wounded soldiers and comforted many dying men. Roy received many medals including the Purple Heart. His tour of duty started with the invasion of France and ended at the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded. He was honorably discharged October 25, 1945.

Returning to South Bend, he worked at AM General and was a self-employed upholsterer.

Roy is survived by daughter, JoAnn (Richard) Baker and granddaughter, Cynthia Ayer of Orlando, FL; stepsons, Peter Meszaros of South Bend and Earnest Meszaros of Elkhart, and many grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Roy enjoyed the friendships of the residents at St. Paul's; he appreciated the care he was given by St. Paul's staff and the loving care given by his nieces, Myrna and Catherine Black of South Bend. Roy requested there be no visitation or services.
