Lowel W. Barber

SOUTH BEND - Lowel W. Barber, 92, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday December 31, 2017. He was born on May 6, 1925, to the late Ira and Bessie (Shivley) Barber.

On April 22, 1945 he married Bonnie Lou McCombs, who preceded him in death in 2011. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Barber. Lowel is survived by his daughter, Teresa Trusner of Grandbury, TX; three sons, Timothy (Susan) Barber of Hot Springs Village, AR, Douglas Barber of Richvalley, IN and Russell (Penny) Barber of Elkhart, IN; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Thomas, William, Andrew, Daniel, Allisa, Amber, Linda, Gerald and James; 13 great-grandchildren; and by two brothers, Dale Barber of Hacienda Heights, CA and Earl (Shirely) of LaHabra, CA.

Mr Barber was a Niles High School graduate and worked as Plant Engineer for St. Mary's College, before retiring in 1990. He was United States Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday January 5, 2018 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 17195 Cleveland Rd., South Bend. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with burial to conclude in Silvebrook Cemetery, Niles, MI. Kaniewski Funeral Homes, South Bend, is handling the arrangements.
