Jean Spader Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2008.
WAREHAM — Jean Fraser Spader (or "Gigi"), born in Brookline, MA on Sept. 16, 1923, died peacefully at Tobey Hospital on October 28, 2007, surrounded by family.

Born to Elizabeth H. Bowditch and James R. Fraser, Jean grew up with her brother Allan, in Canton and Marion.

She attended Friends Academy, Tabor and Wells College, graduating in 1946 as music major. She worked for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and married Stoddard G. Spader (Todd), who taught at the Brooks School in North Andover, MA, where she had the active role of faculty wife with a dorm, and she directed faculty plays.

After three children Libby, Annie and James, she began teaching at The Pike School in Andover, where she was Head of the Pre-primary Program. Gigi and Todd retired to Marion in 1981, where she was a volunteer at the New Bedford Whaling Museum and Tobey Hospital in Wareham. She was devoted to her three children and six grandchildren, who all adored her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WGBH in Boston or Tobey Hospital in Wareham. A celebration of her life will happen at a later date.
