Jose Tavares Obituary
He was the husband of Maria Conceicao (Pimentel) Tavares of 47 years. Son of the late Francisco and Maria (Medeiros) Tavares.
He was born in Ponta Garca, Sao Miguel, Azores, migrated to Canada in 1954, in 1960 to New Bedford to marry his bride to be.
He was a Union Laborer until his retirement, and a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. His greatest love was his grandsons, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends at St. Michael Club.
He was a member of the Portuguese Prayer Group of his parish and General Laborers Union Local 383.
Survivors include his wife of New Bedford, one son Victor Tavares and his wife Karen of New Bedford, two grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Tavares, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Luis Tavares.
Funeral Mass Wednesday at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Earle St., New Bedford. Arrangements under the direction of the CABRAL-BAYLIES SQUARE FUNERAL HOME, 512 No. Front St., New Bedford.
