Toni, Steve, Michelle, Elise, Marissa, Ella Grace and the rest of your family,

I can't even imagine what you all have been going through for the past couple of weeks. Please know we are here for you no matter what time of day or night. John treated me like a son on and off of the job. I have never had, nor will I ever have a boss, mentor and friend like him. From the first day I met him, he treated me that way. When my dad was going through a difficult time and needed help, he was also there in many ways. Please know the impact he has had on our family. You will always be able to count on us, no matter the situation. God Bless you all.

Lt. McCarthy,
Sir, as a fellow Marine I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice-first for our Country when you served with the USMC in Vietnam and secondly for the citizens of Brookline and Braintree when you served as a Police Officer. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

My darling brother my friend, I just left your wonderful service, You would have been so proud at the hundreds of people that came to show their love and respect for you. You would have been so proud of your daughter that spoke of you with so much love. I do not even know where to begin now that you are not in my life anymore, I guess this is where I have to rely on my faith and know that someday I will see that beautiful face again and be able to tell you I love you. Make sure you take care of Dad and let him know I miss him. I know someday I will be able to control the feelings that I have right now and only remember the good times, but for now I can only know that I am so sad and miss you more than you will ever know. I love you always. Your sister Mary

Uncle Johnny, you were like a second father to me. You only lived right down the road from us and I know we called you often but it was because you had a solution for everything. I never knew anyone who accomplished more in their life than you. When I received my Confirmation in high school, I wanted someone to sponsor me who had honor, dignity, and above all else, was perfect in every way. Of course your name came right to mind and it is one of my best memories of you. I'll miss you always and will definitely teach my kids all of the things you taught me. I'm so proud to have grown up so close to such a great man. Say hello to Grandpa for me. Your nephew Vinny.

Your Husband/Dad was without a doubt the most giving person that I have had the pleasure of knowing in my lifetime.
John gave everything and expected nothing in return.
When the hurt is over and the healing begins we will all have memories that will make us laugh as well as make us cry but one thing is for sure... we will all remember Johnny as a genuinely GOOD MAN.
Stay strong.

Your husband/dad was an incredibly special person whom obviously touched many peoples lives in so many different ways. Personally, John was someone I genuinely respected for all that he had accomplished in his lifetime. He was an extremely proud man and rightfully so.
I will forever remember John as a man who gave everything and looked for nothing in return.
I know these are commonly repeated phrases at times such as these, but in this case it has never been so true.
I will miss him both as a friend and as a "Dad"

Love,Your "Adopted Son"

Semper Fi Marine McCarthy.
The Dept. of Ma. Marine Corps League thanks you for your service to God, our Country, and to our beloved Corps. To John's family we send our deepest sympathies and our prayers on your loss and the loss of our Brother. John stood tall and served with Honor and Courage when our nation called and he now has answered the same call by our Supreme Commandant. He will now be in Peace on the streets of Heaven where he will watch over you till we all meet once again. John was a Marine's Marine and a Policeman's policeman as well as being a great husband, father, and a great human being. We do not know why he should be chosen to leave us now but we know that our Lord must have a need for him in Heaven. Although his earthly being is no longer with us, his spirit will live inside your hearts thru the many memories he left behind. May God bless you and stand with you today, tomorrow, and in the weeks and months ahead as you struggle to cope with this void in your lives.
