Shirley Ann Hunter Jones, my beautiful, precious, beloved wife of 53 years, died October 12, 2018, at Baptist Hospital East, Louisville. Shirley was born on March 16, 1945, in Madisonville to Mary Ann Davis Hunter and Louis Marion Hunter.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Lee Jones; son, Michael Lee Jones, Jr.; daughter, Barby Ann Jones Mills; grandchildren, Micky and Mandi Mills; and several nieces and nephews.

She graduated high school in 1964 in Madisonville. She was an excellent student with several years of perfect attendance certificates. We were married on December 26, 1964, in Madisonville, in a wonderful church wedding. She graduated with honors from nursing school and worked for 24 years with perfect attendance, as a nurse/supervisor at Meadows East Nursing Home in Jeffersontown. She was room mother for several years for both of her children. She and her husband started HYR, a children's recreational sports program. She coached and administered the program for eight years. She was a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for several years and received the Leader's Knot Award. She gave her girl scouts lasting memories by overnight camping to include spending the night in a cave. She was very proud of being an American and never missed voting. Friends and family will always remember her for her kind words, her loving heart and her classy clothes. She was a devout Christian. She will be missed and remembered by all whose lives she touched. Our life together was a wonderful, fascinating journey filled with a powerful love. The emptiness is devastating.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 21, 2018, 2 - 8 p.m. with a funeral ceremony on Monday, October 22 at 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, Kentucky.
