Helen Jane
A Memorial Mass for Helen Jane Kading of Spokane will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 12:00 noon, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes 1115 W. Riverside in Spokane, WA. Burial will take place at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone, Iowa, at a later date. Helen died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at the age of 85. She was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Boone, Iowa, the youngest of four children born to Virginia and A.J. Kading. Helen had lived in Spokane for more than a half-century, having settled here permanently after visiting her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Clayton Hendricks in the middle 1950s. Clayton was stationed in Spokane at the time with the U.S. Marine Corps. Helen was a long-time parishioner of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes and had been an active member of the Catholic Business and Professional Women of Spokane. She was employed for approximately 15 years as a bookkeeper in the fiscal office of the Catholic Diocese of Spokane before her retirement. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and two older brothers, James Richard Kading and William Edward Kading. She is survived by one sister, Mary Virginia Hendricks of San Marcos, Texas, one sister-in-law, Clavonne Kading of Boone, Iowa, 10 nieces and nephews and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by loyal friend and guardian Marilyn Walli, and many friends in Spokane. Helen was a cheerful spirit, and a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was an accomplished seamstress and was very generous sharing that talent. She enjoyed dining out with friends after Mass on Sundays, collecting unique treasures, and visiting her sister in Texas. She was proud of her nieces and nephews in their varied professions, and mailed newspaper clippings to family and friends when the Gonzaga Bulldogs made the playoffs. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. It is suggested memorial gifts be made to Catholic Charities PO Box 2253 Spokane, WA 99201-2253 or to Spokane Hospice PO Box 2215 Spokane, WA 99210-2215. Riplinger Funeral Home and Crematory 4305 N. Although we now reside in Phoenix, ARizona we continued to make contact with Helen throughout the years. We will always remember her winnin smile along with her sincerest friendship. On our many trips to Spokane there was usually a get-to-gether with a group of friends which always included Helen and we would see that great smile once again. ....John & Mary Vick, Phoenix, Arizona l
