Carmel, CA -- Long-time resident, Alex O. Swanson, passed away May 1st after a brief illness.
Alex was born and raised in Spokane, WA, the son of Alex and Mildred Swanson, also born in Spokane. He attended University of Idaho and Gonzaga University. After college, he moved to California and married Bobbie, his wife of 58 years. Through his career he managed companies in the construction industry in Northern and Southern California.
Retired in 1978, he and Bobbie returned to Northern California in 1984, leaving La Jolla, their home for 20 years. He served for many years as a docent for both the Oakland Museum and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He also served 20 years as Watch Stander at the Maritime Museum of Monterey.
He was an accomplished golfer, private pilot, and sport fisherman. He loved the boating life and enjoyed his three pleasure boats. His daughters, horse owners from ages 10 and 11, fondly remember his involvement with their horse activities and his announcing at their horse shows.
Survivors include: his wife, Bobbie Swanson, his three daughters, Catherine Leigh Kerns, Carol Leslie Austin and Sally Evelyn Swanson, his son-in-law, John Thomas Kerns III, and his two grandsons, John Thomas Kerns IV and Zachary Alexander Kerns.
