HETH, Cary

Passed away April 13, 2011 at Sunshine Gardens after a year long struggle with many health issues. He was born October 6, 1932 in Spokane, WA to Cary Seldon and Etta Mae Heth. He joined the U.S. Air Force when he was 18 and served as a chaplain's assistant during the Korean War. Cary was a graduate of Eastern Washington University and furthered his education at Whitworth and University of Washington. He taught History and English at many schools in eastern Washington. Cary went from teaching to administration with the Community Colleges of Spokane where he retired as a Dean of the Institute of Extended Learning. While retired, he felt a calling to ministry so he pursued a master's degree in pastoral ministry at Gonzaga University. Following his heart, Cary became a deacon for the Catholic Church serving the Spokane diocese at St. Mary's. In this role, he volunteered for the Spokane Valley Food Bank, did communion services at Good Samaritan nursing home and Valley Hospital. He was a chaplain for Hospice of Spokane where he was named Chaplain of the Year for 2005. Cary is survived by his wife Joann; sisters: Caryl (Doug) Klein, Cathy Blackwell; son Mark (Debbie) Heth; daughters: Karen (Tim) Wright, Patti (Colin) Woodbridge; step-sons: Robert (Chris) Schultz, Ron (Carrie) Schultz; grandchildren: Jennifer (Brandon) Julian, Matthew (Toni) Woodbridge, Andrew (Katie) Heth, Melissa (Jason) Woodbridge, Ryan Heth; step-grandchildren: Anthony Schultz, Caitlin Schultz, Riley Schultz, Bailey Schultz; great-grandchildren: Colin and Halle Woodbridge, Cole Julian; and a large extended family. Preceded in death by Mark (Abunk) Hambrook, Cary and Louise Heth, Etta Mae Morgan, Colin Woodbridge and Annie Heth. The family wishes to thank the staff of Sunshine Gardens, Physical Therapist Michael Allen and Dr. Sima Issen for their outstanding care in the past year. Vigil Service will be Sunday, April 17th at 5 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 18th at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
