Obituary

JACKSON, J. David "Dave"

Passed away on May 28, 2011, from heart failure. Dave was born in 1925 to Wiley B. and Gennie (Dawson) Jackson in Mingo, NC. He was the youngest of nine children. Dave left the farm after high school to work as a clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. He worked his way through college at night earning an accounting degree. During this time, he also served in the National Guard. Dave became a Special Agent in 1950 and worked in San Diego, Seattle, and Spokane where he retired in 1980 after 35 years of devoted service. Dave married Maxine Fox in 1950; she passed away in 1976. In 1977, he married Joan Jenkins. After his retirement, Dave worked as a private investigator contracting with the US State Department and other government agencies. Dave was an active person. He skied until 2010 (!), golfed, fished (fish feared him), worked out several times a week at a gym, and loved working in his yard. He had been active since 1980 in the downtown Kiwanis Club, volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels, and was a volunteer painter at Camp Sweyolakan. Dave was an active member in the local chapter of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation where he had served as Chairman and Secretary at different times. Dave has many, many friends and acquaintances. He once said that everyday he would meet a person that he would like to invite into his home. He didn't know a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all! Dave is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Wayne (Jan); stepchildren, Mike Jenkins and Nancy (Kevin) Kinney; four grandchildren, David and Aliyah Jackson, and Hannah and Henry Kinney; and sisters, Phoebe Jordan and Frances Nichols both living in Fayetteville, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers. A celebration of his life will be held at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline, Spokane, WA 99203 on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in his name to Spokane Kiwanis Charities, PO Box 48276, Spokane, WA 99228. Arrangements have been entrusted to HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE, SPOKANE.
