Rory Ovens Obituary

OVENS, Rory

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Rory Ovens (56) was born on February 14, 1954 in Walla Walla, Wa to Robert and Gloria Ovens. He graduated from Lewis & Clark HS and worked at Inland Foundry until his illness forced his retirement. January 5, 2011 was a blessed day because it was this day that Rory's body was healed. For this was the day he went home to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ. For the past eight years, he has battled the devastating disease of cancer. It finally took his life, but it NEVER took his positive spirit. He never complained, but took everything that was thrown at him with a grace and inner strength that came only from God. Rory was a fighter and a man of great depth; he lived a life that reflected the Savior he loved and served- a life we could all learn from. "Whatever life may give us, whatever life may take from us, it's the attitude we have that makes us what we are!" He leaves behind his wife and soulmate Tammie, his children: Andrew Paulsen and Emily Carlson-Ovens (13) at home, R. Brandon Ovens (Michelle), Jamie Kinley (Todd), Ryan Ovens (Naomi), Emily Alade (Mike), Molly Ovens, Trevor Ovens (Kyli). A brother Terry Ovens (Jane) and his Oregon family. Marilyn Ubik (Jack), Stan Kelso (Judy), Scott Kelso (Linda), John Kelso (Sue). His two side companions, Bonnie and Rosie. We would like to thank the many people who have supported us during this journey especially the Landerholm family, all of Rory's many doctors and for all the love and excellent care we received from Shannon and the crew at Horizon Hospice, and Reliant RX. Services will be January 22, 2011 at 2pm, Fourth Memorial Church, 2000 N. Standard St. Please wear in honor of Rory, your favorite cowboy, motorcycle or Irish garb. A Memorial Fund has been established at Spokane Teachers Credit Union.

Dear Tammie,
I am so very sorry for your loss. He is now without pain and suffering and is flying high with God's angels.
What a charming couple you always made when coming in to see Doc. If ever you need to talk to someone who's been "there", please do call me.
Fondly, Lynn

I first met Rory in 1971 at the I Am Coffeehouse. We lost contact in the 80s and 90s. Met up again in 2002. He faced life's challenges with faith and courage. See you on the other side my friend.

I didn't know Rory very well but he sure seemed like a really good guy, there was something different about him, he treated everyone with dignity. Back in about 74' we went up to Browns mountain in his old Willys which he claimed could go anywhere. To demonstrate, he turned off the road and attempted to climb up the side of the mountain which had about 3 ft. of snow on it. We went about 5 ft. and promptly got stuck up to the wheel wells. There were 4 of us so it only took 2 hrs. to dig out.

I met Rory during the Jesus People movement in Spokane in the early 70's. He was passionate about the Lord then. We will meet again. PTL

I did not run in the same crowd as Rory in High School but I always thought he was really cool. I just thumbed through my old L.C. yearbook which I just happened to locate today, and when I looked up Rory, I had to re-affirm it, he was cool alright. I got to visit with Rory along with a mutual friend about 2 months ago and it was a special time. God Bless you Rory and also those who are left here mourning the loss of their loved one. To be absent from the body IS to be present with the LORD. Mark Maye Lewis & Clark High School Class of 1972
