Larry HAYNES Obituary

HAYNES, Larry Gordon (Age 73) Larry Gordon Haynes passed peacefully into heaven on June 10, 2015, after battling several illnesses. Larry was born in Lamar, CO to John E. Haynes and Florence Portrey Haynes on October 14, 1941. Larry is survived by his wife Gyda Marie Haynes of the home, three children: Erika Smollack (John), Tracy, CA; Alicia Somersille (Revo), Stockton, CA, and Brian Haynes, Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by two stepchildren: Dorothy Rowland (Bruce), Bonners Ferry, ID, and Denise Prohaska, Spokane, WA. Larry is also survived by five grandchildren as well as his sisters: Margaret Klein, Libby, MT, and Audrey Dood, Colfax, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry's parents and his brothers Jack, Derrold, and Donald all preceded him in death. Larry's family moved to Bonners Ferry, ID, when he was a young boy, and he spent his childhood on Round Prairie Ranch north of Bonners. He was a 1959 graduate of Bonners Ferry High School. He served in the U.S. Army and upon his honorable discharge, he worked several jobs before joining the U.S. Border Patrol where he served for 27 years. Upon his retirement, Larry became quite the artist, producing many paintings in his own unique style over the years. He was an avid and prolific woodworker who built everything from antique reproduction clocks to furniture. Later in life he took up fretwork on the scroll saw, producing more beautiful items...clocks, wall plaques, and gifts for others. Larry came back to God and joined St. John's Lutheran Church in 2014. He took a special joy in making wooden toys and puzzles for children and donated many to Meadowlane Christian School and St. John's Sunday School. Larry and his wife Gyda Marie were married in Port Orchard, WA in 2008, and moved to Spokane from Bremerton, WA, where they made their home. Larry's Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015, 11:00 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, 5810 South Meadowlane Road, Spokane, WA 99224 with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Spokane Hospice House.
