News Death Notice

MYERS, Helen H. 97, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013. She was born April 2, 1916, in Springfield, Ohio, the youngest daughter of Louis P. and Minnie (Goodchild) Hughes. Helen was a 1934 graduate of Springfield High School. She worked at the Crowell-Collier Publishing Company until her marriage to her high school sweetheart Charles V. Myers on May 1, 1941. During their 51 years of marriage, the Myerses lived in Pennsylvania and Connecticut before returning to Springfield following retirement. Helen's husband passed away in 1992. Also preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters, Ruth E. Hughes, Anna M. (Jesse) Rogers and Esther M. (Karl) Harris as well as sisters-in law Dorothy M. (Thomas) Payton and Eva M. (Sherman) Foulke. Surviving are one daughter Judy (Douglas) Guy of Annapolis, MD; two sons, Charles (Beth) Myers of Ottawa, OH, and Robert Myers of Champaign, IL; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Nick) Aumiller of Columbia, MD, Rachel Guy of Athens, GA, Margaret (Dave Tran) Guy of Columbia, MD; three grandsons, Steven Myers of Cedar Park, TX, Jeffrey Myers of Granger, IN, Brian Myers of Chicago, IL; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Following the death of her husband Charles, Helen established the Charles V. Myers Scholarship which has provided four-year academic scholarships for over a hundred Clark County students. She also was active in directing her charitable trusts to assist with various other projects through Christ Episcopal Church and the community. A very loving mother, grandmother and great -grandmother, Helen was the true matriarch of her family. Her wisdom and comfort will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, July 19, at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Charlotte Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, July 18, from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Springfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Charles V. and Helen H. Myers Scholarship for Engineering at the Springfield Foundation or to Christ Episcopal Church, 409 East High Street, Springfield, OH 45505.
