News Death Notice

BENDER, John R. 71, of Springfield, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born November 14, 1941 in Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of Ralph E. and Doris (Ferguson) Bender. John and his wife Linda were avid travelers following their retirement. One of John's greatest passions was to cook for his family and friends. He retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber after 25 years and was also employed at Grismer Tire. Mr. Bender was a 1959 graduate of Springfield High School and he attended Ohio State University. He was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving in Turkey, Japan and Vietnam. Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years; Linda (Bull) Bender, three children; Dr. Jonathan (Laura) Bender, Atlanta, Georgia, Holly (Ian) Fraser, St. Petersburg, Florida and John Davis, Springfield, six grand children; Nicolas and Julia Bender, Owain and Elliott Fraser, Kyle and Khloe Davis, one brother and sister-in-law; David and Shirley Bender, Mesa, Arizona, one sister and brother-in-law; Beverly and Alan Smith, Wilmington, North Carolina, one sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Gail and Bob Glancy, Springfield, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend; Jack Jones, Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Ronald Bender. Visitation will be held in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME from 5:00PM until 8:00PM Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday in St. Teresa Catholic Church with Father Ed Gearhart officiating,. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
