News Death Notice

HESS, Joseph Nicholas 88, of South Charleston, went to be with the Lord on Monday March 31, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born September 12, 1925 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Frieda Hess. Joe was a founding member of the Northside Church of God. He served in the Mission Field in Central and South America helping to build churches for the needy. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from the New York Central / Penn Central / Amtrak after forty-two years. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nikki and Pearl Smith of Springfield; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Brenda Hess of Dallas, Texas, Walter (Randy) and Melanie Hess of Mechanicsburg, Jason and Amy Hess of Beavercreek; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mayme and Raymond Bruner of Dayton; eight grandchildren, Alexandra Mayes and Luke Hess of Beavercreek, Zachary and Cole Hess of Mechanicsburg, Jody and Brad Hess of Dallas, Texas, David Smith and John Tredway of Columbus; two great-grandchild, Alia Smith of Columbus and Jaylen Joseph Hess of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, specials friends, neighbors and special friend Norma. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of fifty-eight years, Betty (Raines) Hess; three sisters, Sophia Elsia and Frieda; three brothers, Bill, John and Alfred. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME with additional visitation from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, in the Northside Church of God, 3705 Middle-Urbana Road, with Pastor Gary Swogger officiating.
