Kenneth RUSH Obituary

RUSH, Kenneth G. 87, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away Sunday morning, January 28, in his home. He was born in Springfield on July 7, 1930, to Kenneth L. Rush and Hazel Fisher Rush. Ken went on to attend Castle Heights Military Academy, graduating in 1948, before attending the University of Wisconsin where he graduated in 1952. At Wisconsin Ken met his wife, Mary J. Rush (d. 11.10.2015). They were engaged and married just before Ken served overseas in the Korean War as a Lt. in the United States Army. The couple lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for a year and when Ken was honorably discharged from the Army, they moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Ken attended and graduated from Harvard University Law School in 1957. The couple later returned to Springfield where Ken actively practiced law until he retired. In the community, Ken was an active leader in the law, in the arts and beyond. He served as President of the Clark County Bar Association, was on Wittenberg University's Board of Directors, contributed to the Springfield Civic Theater, WASSO, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the Springfield Summer Arts Festival. Ken's local family extended beyond his civic and professional leadership. He was dedicated to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (formerly Fourth Lutheran). The Rush's home was always open as Ken loved entertaining and cooking. Ken's life was truly one in which he saw the world. He and Mary traveled across the United States and the globe, often going on archaeological digs in the Southwest and Eastern United States. He loved the water and was an avid sailor, cruising sailboats on the Chesapeake, Atlantic and Caribbean. Wherever their travels led the Rushes, Ken never left without a book or two and a tennis racket in his carry-on. He is survived by a lovely family; brother-in-law, David Jackson of Mequon, WI; sister-in-law, Betty Jackson of Monroe, NC; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Luth of Mason, OH, Emily (Daniel) Dubay of Mooresville, NC, William Henry (Teresa) Jackson of Mequon, WI, and Julia Jackson of Grafton, WI; and first cousin Abdul Hashim M.D. of Rockville, MD. He has four-loving great nephews, Owen Luth, William Dubay, Christopher and Luke Jackson. Friends and family can joyfully celebrate Ken's life on Friday, February 2 from 5-7 p.m. at his family home, 220 N. Broadmoor Blvd in Springfield. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions in Ken's name go to the Springfield Symphony Orchestra or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME is serving the family and family condolences can be shared at www.littletonandrue.com

I only just became aware of Gene's passing. He and I became friends in junior high school prior to his going to Castle Heights. i always stopped to see him when I was back in Springfield. He was a real contributor to Springfield. My condolences to the family.
