Catherine MERKLE Obituary
MERKLE, Catherine R. Age 90 of Dayton, passed away on July 9, 2018. Catherine was a graduate of Fairview High School Class of 1946, and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton for 73 years. Catherine married her life's love, Arthur Merkle, on October 4, 1952 and celebrated their 65 years together in 2017. She was on the Board for the Women's Republican Club, was active in the North Christian Women's Club, served on boards of the First Baptist Church and also for over 70 years member of the Dayton Victory No. 594 Order of the Eastern Star. Catherine was very dedicated as a past Northmont Band Parent and was more importantly supportive as a mom of her family and the things the kids would bring home or make. She was her husband Art's support base when opening Merkle Pharmacy-which was to be "the best drug store on the block." Catherine enjoyed listening to the Reds and watching the theater plays at Wright State, she enjoyed working the newspaper crossword puzzles and annotating articles with her own written opinions. She liked to go bowling, play bridge with friends, and above all else spend time with her husband Art and the family. She was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who always put the needs of family before herself. She was a remarkable person and above all she was loved much in her lifetime. She will be missed but we treasure our memories of her. Catherine is survived by her husband: Arthur C. Merkle Jr., children: Deborah (Dennis) Kern of Galt, CA, Gregory Merkle of Dayton, Barbara (Barry) Goldschmidt of Marietta, GA, grandchildren: Afton Kern, Adam and Eric Goldschmidt, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: David M. and Garnett L. (Jones) Warner, siblings: David Roy Warner, Mary Ann Douglas, and Ruth Brocone. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 13, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood).
