HAYS, Charles T. "Charlie" 82 of Springfield died Monday, April 30, 2007 in his residence. He was born in Jasper, Ohio on July 4, 1924, the son of Thornton C. and Ruth B. (Taylor) Hays. Charlie retired from Howard Sober, Inc. as a truck driver with thirty years of service. He was a member of Veterans of Forign Wars Post 1031; DAV Post 13; the Machinist and Union Clubs; and Teamsters Local 654. He served his country in the United States Army, being the first draftee out of Pike County during WWII, and served as a medic in New Guinea. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 54 years, Marcella; grandson Christopher T. Sutherland; and a son-in-law Dubby Dotson. Survivors include his children Pam Grove of Denver, Colorado; Mary and Wes Hart, Steve and Judy Hays, Patty and Steve Hayslip, Bill and Stacia Hays all of Springfield; brother Jim Hays of Portsmouth; and sister Betty Brewster of Piketon; fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Pastor Rick Clos officiating. Friends and family may call from 5 p.m. until time of services. Burial will take place in Rose Hill Burial Park at a later date. Memorial contributions are requested to the Alzheimer's Association.
