Edward A. VINCENT Obituary
VINCENT, Edward A. 93, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 12, 2018 following a brief illness. He was born in Slatersville, Rhode Island on December 13, 1924, the son of the late Edward and Mary Jane (Wilkins) Vincent. Ed proudly served his country as a B-17 Navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying missions over Germany during WWII. Following his service, he attended Brown University, graduating in 1949. While at Brown, he played hockey and baseball, captaining the hockey team in his senior season. Ed worked for Interstate Department Stores for 26 years and then owned and operated, along with his wife, Carol, the Downtown Specialty Store for 14 years. He served on the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Merchants Association. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1970 and a former member and officer of Northwood Hills Country Club. Ed is survived by his wife of 72 years, Carol J. (Hirsch) Vincent; three children, Kathy Johnsonbaugh of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Edward (Kriss) Vincent of Brookhaven, Pennsylvania and Nancy Lindsey of Springfield; five grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Vincent and two sisters, Doris Stephens and Geraldine Clough. Pastor Daniel M. Powell will preside over a service in celebration of Ed's life, which will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, Springfield. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. The family wishes to express their thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Miami Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
