Kent RICHARDSON Obituary
RICHARDSON, Kent Douglas Passed away on October 8, 2018 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Hamilton, OH on January 20, 1958 to Charles T. and Suzanne (Goldrick) Richardson, he was educated in the Hamilton Public School system and was a graduate of Hamilton Taft High School in 1976. On August 12, 2006, Kent married Wanda (Ledford) Richardson who survives him. A graduate of Miami University (OH), Kent had a variety of interests in life, some of which he was able to use to further his career path(s). He turned his amateur photographer's experience into a sports column for The Venice Cornerstone newspaper in Ross where he covered nearly 400 high school basketball games and 160 football contests over a 15 year period. Kent was a long-time member of the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association (OSPA). As an author, he wrote for twenty years under the pen name of K.D. Richardson. As of his death, he had nine titles on the shelves and two more in the editing process at his publisher's. His best known title was Reflections of Pearl Harbor, a non-fiction collection of over 170 personal accounts relayed from the people who were around during that traumatic period of our nation's history. Kent also wrote over a dozen screenplays and shopped them around the movie industry for a time. His interest in Hollywood didn't stop at the pen. He was able to land several background acting roles for a number of the movies shot in this region and was able to boast of being on the set with stars such as Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Mariah Carey, and Don Cheadle. Kent was a supporter of area sports as well as running in many of the area's 5K runs, his last being in August, 2017. Kent also spent 17 years as an "A-Licensed" skydiver and was a member of the United States Parachute Association. He also devoted several years towards the end of his skydiving career as a member of P.O.P.S, (Parachutists Over Phorty). Kent spent a great deal of his work years in the pharmaceutical industry in Inventory control. Besides his wife Wanda, of 12 years, he leaves behind a sister, Marcia Roemer of Dayton, father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Sally Ann Ledford (affectionately known as "Ma & Pa,") brothers and sisters-in-law Burt and Sheila Ledford, Keith and Elizabeth Ledford and Rodney and Jackie Sams and many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews. Kent attended Princeton Pike Church of God in Liberty Township and especially loved Pastor Barry Clardy, Bro. Bob Burns and Bro. Fred Napier. The family would like to thank everyone that has been so supportive to Wanda and Kent during this time. He will deeply miss his adopted hometown of Ross, but moved to a much larger heavenly mansion. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to "The Kent Richardson Scholarship Fund" at Ross High School that was bestowed upon Kent in August of 2018 by Mr. Jake Richards, Ross Athletic Director. Visitation will be held at Charles C. Young Funeral Home, 4032 Hamilton Cleves Road, Ross, OH on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 5 8 pm.
