News Death Notice

VLAHOS, Lester Louis 89, of Dayton, passed away at Grace Brethren Village in Englewood on January 7. Lester was born April 3, 1924 in Springfield, Ohio the son of Louis John and Katina (Arida) Vlahos. He had worked in public relations for DP&L, taught communications and public relations at the University of Dayton and received honors from both the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations for his work on the U.S. Savings Bond Campaign. He was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Springfield, later the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Dayton. Lester was a United States Navy veteran serving in WWII. Survivors include his son, Louis L. Vlahos and his life partner, Thomas D. Paulson of Minneapolis, MN; three grandsons, Jonathan L. (Susan) Vlahos, Christopher L. (Jennifer) Vlahos and Matthew L. Vlahos; three great grandchildren, Alekzander, Zackary and Effie Vlahos; former daughter-in-law, Suzanne Vlahos; sister, Maxine Stamas; in-laws, Olivia Vlahos, Mary (Ted) Athanasakes, George (Bess) Fotos; his wonderful friend and combara, Tulla Brooks and a large family of loving nephews, cousins and special loving friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Effie Fotos Vlahos in 1994, grandson, Christian L. Vlahos in 1981, brothers, John Vlahos in 2004 and Michael Vlahos who was killed in 1944 during WWII, his mother in 1990, father in 1965 and a brother-in-law, Nick Stamas in 2006. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church or Lester's favorite charity, the Wayzata Community Church c/o Homeless Blanket Drive, 125 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata, MN, 55391.
