Martha (Hahn) RUCH Obituary

News Death Notice

RUCH, Martha (nee Hahn) 92, passed away on February 11th in Mesa, Arizona. Mrs. Ruch was born in the family farmhouse in Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina to Willis E. Hahn and Annie Foil Hahn (both deceased) on December 10th, 1920. A few years later she became a big sister to her beloved brother George Richter Hahn (deceased). Spending her formative years in Savannah, Georgia, Mrs. Ruch was introduced to Mr. Asher G. Ruch (deceased) shortly before he was deployed to serve his country in the Air Force during World War II. While he was stationed in the South Pacific, she studied and earned a BA from Georgia University. Putting her excellent penmanship to use their correspondence blossomed into a courtship, and upon Mr. Ruch's return to the USA, they were engaged and then married in Savannah on February 23rd, 1946. Following their nuptials the couple moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts while he studied at Harvard Law and she worked as a research medical technician. Eventually settling in the Springfield / Dayton, Ohio area to raise their growing family, Mr. and Mrs. Ruch were active members of the First Lutheran Church of Springfield. Mrs. Ruch was most recently a member of Love of Christ Church in Mesa, Arizona. Mrs. Ruch was a voracious reader, a tremendous baker and an expert in the craft of the perfect pie crust. Her phenomenal balance of patience, attention to detail, and steady, skilled hands made her sewing, knitting, and crochet, quite simply put, works of art. Once one made a friend of Mrs. Ruch, no matter the miles or years between, one could expect a card full of warm wishes on a birthday, all holidays, as well as newsy letters throughout the year. She loved chocolate, learning, church, her children, Boston Terriers and dogs of all stripes, and her grandchildren not necessarily in that order. While she led a long and full life she will be forever missed. Mrs. Ruch is survived by her three children: Edward (Teresa) of Shaker Heights, Ohio; Gary "Gene" (Denise) of Mesa, Arizona, and Amy Ruch of Mesa, Arizona. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Christopher of Mesa, Arizona; Leslie of Shaker Heights, Ohio; Paul (Melissa) of Shaker Heights, Ohio; Leah (Adam Slutzker) of Denver, Colorado; Jordan of Mesa, Arizona; and Tyler of Mesa, Arizona; as well as nieces and nephews in North Carolina, New York and Texas. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Springfield, Ohio on Friday, February 15th from 5:00-7:00 PM. Services will be held in the First Lutheran Church, 30 South Wittenberg Ave, Springfield, Ohio on Saturday, February 16th at 1:00 PM with a reception at the same location at 4:00 PM. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield. You may express condolences to the family at www.littletonandrue.com
