"Uncle" Wayne, I still miss you and your dry wit. Now that I am retired, I am quoting you when asked how is retirement. "Retirement is WONDERFUL, I recommend it for everyone." God bless you and rest in peace.

We are so sad to hear about the loss of Wayne. Our prayers are with Kathy, Robyn, and Christopher. It has been a long time since we saw Wayne, but he was a great colleague and friend at Wittenberg.

The first time the Tow Path brought sad news. Sorry to lose another classmate from New Bremen High School Class of 1965. Wayne was always a lot of fun with a droll sense of humor. Kathy, so sorry for your loss. God comfort you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Peace,
Roberta Halker

I had the pleasure of serving with Wayne on the cannon crew of the First Mad River Light Artillery.

I enjoyed Wayne's sense of humor, and his insight and wisdom as we solved the problems of the world around the camp fire.

My condolences to the Maurer family upon the
loss of Wayne. I reenacted with Wayne when he
was with the 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. I
remember his quiet way, smiles and massive bear
hugs. We tramped a lot of historical ground together. I will truly miss him. Rest in peace
pard.

Sorry for your loss. Professor Maurer was a great teacher and influenced me significantly. I was an average student was majoring in Geography. I began taking business classes, avoiding accounting based on my now wife, the girlfriend's bad experience (different professor). I tried registering for a class that required accounting as a prerequisite. Explaining the situation, Professor Maurer provided encouragement, so I signed up for Accounting 101. I absolutely loved the class and him as a teacher. I ended up with an A, which I had not had to that point at Witt. I took the second part, also from him. I had 100 on the first two tests. Recalling how brutal his finals were, I asked, if I have all 100's, do I have to take the final? He thought for a moment and then agreed. The next section was on cost accounting. As he handed out the graded tests, he said, see you for the final, Ward! I have never forgotten him.

I have many, many fond memories of "Uncle" Wayne as a student at Wittenberg and then later as a fellow Marine in the Marine Corps League. Loved his witticism and sarcasm. Always enjoyed seeing him selling tickets to the Wittenberg Football games. Part of the times Wayne and I would be together was as members of an Honor Guard the Marine Corps League provided for veterans funerals. I am sadden yet honored that the last Marine Corps funeral detail I do with him is his own. God Bless you Wayne, Kathy and family. You will be greatly missed
