SANDERS, Billy Gene age 79, of Tampa, was born on March 6, 1935 in Arkansas City, KS, to the late Martin Sanders and Maxine Finnell Sanders. He went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2014. Mr. Sanders retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in Oct. of 1984 after 30 years of service. He was a firm believer in Christ and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Tampa. He was a member of the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, OK. Mr. Sanders loved Golfing and played in several Pro-Am Tournaments. He loved and lived life to the fullest and helping and serving others was one of his greatest achievements. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his children, Martin, Billy and Mary; and his grandchildren, Tiffany, Renneker, Carter, Leah, Rebekah and Andrew. He will be greatly missed but we shall see him again! A memorial service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, April 12, from the Carrollwood Chapel of Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 3207 West Bearss Ave., Tampa, FL 33618, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 pm, on Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 12708 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, FL 33618. A committal service will be held at 12:45 pm, Monday, April 14, at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10,000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg, FL 33708 with full military honors rendered by the U.S. Navy and the VFW Post 9272.
