Vito Covino Obituary

Covino, Vito A.
Vito Anthony Covino passed away on June 11, 2015, of complications from cancer. His heart simply stopped, and it is that big, strong heart, and his laughter, and his devotion to Church and family that brightened the lives of all who knew him. Vito was born in Stamford, Connecticut, where he attended Stamford High School and J.M. Wright Technical School, and where he met and married Jeannette Tartaglia, the love of his life. He worked for many years in Stamford for Branson Instruments, on the development of ultrasonic testing equipment. In 1964, Vito, Jean, and their three children (Bill, Joann, and Karen) moved to Reseda in California's San Fernando Valley, where Vito became a sales associate for Branson, later started his own company--VC Ultrasonics-- and eventually retired to Thousand Oaks with Jean. Retirement provided Vito the time to increase his lifetime devotion to faith and family. He became an active and beloved member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, where he served as an usher till just before his passing, and as Financial Secretary for the Knights of Columbus Council 8397. Vito and Jean watched their family increase to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and enjoyed a wide circle of friends and acquaintances on the East and West coasts, who all loved Vito's boisterous sense of humor, and his wonderful warmth. Vito is survived by Jean, his wife of 64 years, his sister Rachel, and his children and grandchildren. All who knew him will miss him.Visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 6:00pm at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 2475 Borchard Road, in Newbury Park, Ca. followed with the recitation of the rosary at 7:00pm A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday June 23, 2015 also at St. Julie Catholic Church with Father Paul J. Dear Jean , You probably don't know us by name , but we'd see you and Vito at Ed & Maureen's house for any of their gatherings. It was with great sadness that I felt upon reading the obituary of Vito's passing. He didn't know us very well , but he always made us feel at ease when we'd see him , because of his easygoing manner and he was always so quick with a great joke or story. Even our 20 year old son , who saw him less than we did , expressed his sadness to me. Let our thoughts and prayers comfort you and your family in this time of sorrow. We will miss Vito greatly... Our best regards , Cary , Frances and Steven Golditch

It is hard to believe that our beloved Vito has passed before we were ready to let him go. I can't say enough about what he added to my life at St. Julie's. To his family: I pray and hurt for all of you. Phyllis Simonich

Dear Jean, Joann and family, Vito was a true joy to be around. I worked with him at Branson, and always looked forward to my trips to S. CA because of him. He was always upbeat and kept everyone in stitches. May God bless his soul.

Dear Jean and family,
Julio and I were saddened to read of Vito's death. We were aware that he was ill with cancer and as soon as I heard I added him to my daily prayers. I will now pray for his soul. Vito was a joy to know and we had such great memories. As I remember, he was the one who introduced Julio to me. May he rest in peace.
