George J. Sacco

George J. Sacco Obituary

George J. Sacco, formerly of Brookhill, Sugarloaf Twp. and currently residing in The Villages, Fla., and Kelayres, passed away Nov. 4 in UF Health Shands Hospital, Gainesville, Fla., following a one-month illness.

Born in Hazleton on Feb. 17, 1954, he was the son of the late George and Theresa (LaBuda) Sacco. He was a 1971 graduate of Hazleton High School and a 1975 graduate of Penn State University.

George began his career in automobile sales with Wright Motors and over the years worked for Berger Family Dealership, Independence Toyota and Rovnack Auto Sales. He earned the respect and trust of his customers through his integrity, kindness and personality.

George was a former member of the VCC and had a hole-in-one in 2015 at Mountain Valley Golf Course. His dream was to move to The Villages, Fla., and in 2019, he fulfilled that dream. While his time there was cut short, he enjoyed every minute.

George is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joyce (Yakubisin) Sacco; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann (Sacco) Pennington and George Pennington, Kelayres.

A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, followed by a brief memorial service at 6 p.m. COVID-19 restrictions of mask wearing and social distancing will be in effect at the funeral home.

The family requests no flowers, as George's urn will return to Florida and remain in their home. Memorial donations may be made to the Hazleton Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 481, Hazleton, PA 18201, or to Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions, Inc., 13014 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33618.
