Mary Harkins, 88, of Hazleton, and a guest at The Manor at St. Luke Village, passed away Friday in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.

Born in Junedale, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Emma Patrick Peck and a life resident of the area.

Mary left school at a very young age to help raise her siblings after the death of her mother.

In later years, she was employed by AUL-Electronics oin the assembly line until her retirement.

Mary met the love of her life, William "Harkie" Harkins, in 1955. They shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised their son, Billy. Mary was blessed with two cherished grandchildren who were the pride and joy of her life. She was affectionately known as "Nana." She would make many sacrifices to indulge them with whatever they wanted.

Mary loved all animals. Especially dear to to her was her dog, Ginger.

One of her favorite activities was scouring yard sales with her sister. She found many treasures over the years. She also enjoyed trips to the local casinos and bus trips to Atlantic City.

In Mary's later years, she relocated to Drums to live with her son, Bill, and his wife, Lisa. Being with family brought her great happiness.

Preceding her in death was her husband, William Harkins, in 1994; and the following sisters and brother, Julia Belusko, Anna Farkus and Michael Peck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Surviving is her loving and devoted son, William Harkins and wife, Lisa, Drums; and her cherished grandchildren, Bill and Ashley Harkins. Also surviving are two sisters, Emily Debalko, Hazleton; and Barbara Griffiths, Hazleton.
