Joseph P. Zukowski Obituary

Joseph P. Zukowski passed away June 18 at Dixie Regional Medical Center, St. George, Utah.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Joseph Zukowski and Lucille Zukowski. He was a 1960 graduate of Hazleton High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after graduation. He served his country for 20 years as an electronics specialist and did tours of duty in Vietnam, McMurdo Station in Antarctica and other locations in the United States and around the world. Following his honorable discharge in 1980, he continued to work for the U.S. Navy in Mare Island, Calif., as a contractor repairing communication equipment.

In 2004, he moved to Washington, Utah, and became very active in the Southern Utah Color Country Model Railroad Club, where he was always ready to lend a hand to other members with his electronics expertise and his inventory of parts and supplies. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, pro football, the History channel and traveling to visit friends in Mesquite and Las Vegas, Nev.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Katherine Zukowski.

Surviving are his brother, Lawrence and his wife, Connie, Gibsonia; sisters, Beth Zukowski and Odette Ashby; and nephew, John C. Ashby, all of Hazleton.

A memorial service was held in St. George, Utah, and the U.S. Navy will conduct a burial at sea.
