George J. Greech Jr. Obituary

George J. Greech Jr., 77, of Sugarloaf Twp. passed away Sunday afternoon in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, following a sudden illness.

Born in Hazle Twp. on Dec. 3, 1942, he was the son of the late George Sr. and Mary (Evancho) Greech. Prior to residing in Sugarloaf Twp., he had lived in Hazleton.

George worked as an electrical engineer for several local manufacturers, including Dorr-Oliver and Genova. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a CCD teacher, Eucharistic Minister and lector.

He was an avid sports fan, especially of Penn State football and Philadelphia Phillies baseball, and coached various youth sports during his life. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage and enjoyed researching genealogy. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved animals and had pet dogs throughout his life.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife, the former Maryanne Healey, on March 11, 2013.

Surviving are two daughters, Erin Zehner, her husband, Ryan, and their children, Cooper and Rhett, Blythewood, S.C.; and Molly Greech, Sugarloaf Twp.; two brothers, Joseph Greech and his wife, Barbara, West Hazleton; and Gary Greech and his wife, Mary, Hazleton; and many nieces and nephews, including James and Matthew Greech.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with a memorial Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Bosco R.C. Church, 573 state Route 93, Sugarloaf Twp.

Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
