Marie Josephine Ervin Obituary

Marie Josephine Ervin, 92, of West Oakdale, Freeland, loved playing bingo, listening and dancing to polkas, watching her soaps and going to casinos. When this was no longer possible, she decided to go to her lord and be with our dad again in eternal Heaven. She passed away peacefully Sunday at Parkland Manor Assisted Living, Allentown.

Born in Tresckow, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Victoria (Nicholas) Manna. She was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Freeland.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Bell Telephone and Gerard Mills, Hazleton.

Marie was the most wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, friend and neighbor. She was always ready to give a helping hand or do without in order to give you more. The word "no" was not part of her dictionary and she was known by her family and friends for making and sharing outstanding Easter pie. She was a peacemaker throughout her life and was blessed with a peaceful passing for all the good deeds performed in her lifetime.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. "Bill" Ervin, in 2018; brothers, Albert, Michael and Patrick Manna; and sisters, Carmella DeFrancisco, Connie Palko, Anna Barbotti and Jennie Havrilla.

Surviving are her daughter, Debra Bognet and her husband, Dr. Joseph Bognet, Allentown; son, William J. Ervin and his wife, Nancy (Soika), Harleigh; granddaughter, Kaia Leigh Bognet; sisters, Margaret Rosato, Hazleton; and Theresa Fay, Providence Place Assisted Living, Drums; sisters-in-law, Shirley Manna, Tresckow; and Berdene Ondishin, Hazleton; along with several nieces and nephews.

A Divine Liturgy with Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish (St. Ann's Church), 898 Centre St., Freeland.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.

Friends may call at the church Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass.

Please keep in mind that when attending the services, current COVID-19 guidelines are to be followed, which include wearing a face mask and practicing social distancing.

Marie always told her granddaughter, "If someone does not have a smile, then give them one of yours." In her memory and honor, give a smile to someone today.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization that helps bring smiles to children with cleft palates and lips: Smile Train, P.O. Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090-6231. Checks should be made payable to Smile Train.

Memorial fonations to Compassionate Care Hospice, 3897 Adler Place, Building C, Suite 180, Bethlehem, PA 18017, are also welcomed by the family.
