Arlene S. Krause Obituary

Arlene S. Krause, 96, of West Hazleton passed away peacefully of natural causes Sunday morning at her home.

Born in Pine Grove on April 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late David and Lucille (Boop) Baker.

Following graduation from West Hazleton High School in 1942, she was among the first to work in the new Pentagon as a stenographer. She and Arthur Krause married and she became a devoted homemaker, raising their children.

As the saying goes, "behind every good man is a strong woman." That was Arlene. She loved entertaining and welcoming at small gatherings the newcomers who came to Hazleton with industries brought in by CAN DO and Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, where Arthur was active.

She was the faithful and beloved mainstay of her family. She doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her calm and positive spirit. She was an active longtime member of West Hazleton Trinity Lutheran Church. An avid reader, she also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.

Arlene was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband of 67 years, Arthur, in 2010; her son, Lare Krause; brothers, Leroy and David Baker; and son-in-law, George Hirko.

Arlene is survived by her sister, Catherine Shively and her husband, Harold; son, Dale Krause; daughter, Ellen (Hirko) Gadola; grandchildren, Wynne Kelch and her husband, Greg; William Krause and his wife, Allison; and George Hirko and his wife, Cathy; great-grandchildren, Maxwell Kelch, Jackson, Lincoln, Kaya and Olivia Krause and Robert Hirko.

All services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
