Betty Carmella Baskin Obituary

Betty Carmella Baskin was born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Bissol) Friendy and passed away Tuesday.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nevin Allen Baskin; and daughter, Jamie A. Meshofski; and siblings, Ralph, Charles, Joseph, Morris, Daniel, Theresa, Mary, Jenny, Elizabeth and Jamie.

Betty was married to Nevin for 66 years. Betty was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton. Betty prided herself in being a homemaker, as well as a seamstress in the local sewing factories. Betty was known for her homemade pies and breads. She took pride in preparing delicious Italian meals for her children and is best known for her famous meatballs. In her later years, she especially enjoyed crocheting blankets for her children and the local nursing homes. One of her favorite pastimes was taking short road trips with her daughter, Betsy, and occasionally with a rescue dog named Birdie.

Betty has seven children, John Baskin, Hazleton; Sara Osborne and husband, Jeff, Newport News, Va.; Elizabeth Gallagher, Hazleton; Nevin Baskin and wife, Lee Drums; Charles Baskin, Hazleton; and Robert Baskin and wife, Kathleen, Drums. Betty has eight grandchildren, Luke, Kelsey, Charlie Jr., Nevin James, Alycia, Jesiah, Samantha and Alexander. She also has two great-grandchildren, Vincent and Lillian; and a third great grandchild is expected in March. Betty is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Fierro Funeral Home, Hazleton.
