Janet S. Kringe Obituary

Janet S. Kringe, 70, entered into eternal rest Wednesday at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 6, 1950, in Hazleton, to Frank and Marguerite Smith.

After graduating from Hazleton High School, Janet married William C. Kringe. Together they spent their lives raising four children and enjoying their grandchildren. Janet was a "South-sider," having happily lived in that part of Hazleton for more than 50 years before relocating to Drums.

Janet was a gifted homemaker who devoted her life to her family, ensuring that every family member and guest felt comfortable, welcomed and loved. Janet enjoyed hosting holiday meals and cooked everyone's favorite dishes. Besides raising her four children, she offered care to infirm relatives, who enjoyed their stay so much that they were saddened to return to their own homes. Janet was so proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, being the biggest cheerleader for all their endeavors - celebrating successes and encouraging growth from failures.

She loved animals, especially caring for Dusty, Magic, Scooby and Rascal and feeding the squirrels and deer. Janet was known for her kindness and generosity. She gave without counting the cost and helped anyone in need.

Until her retirement, Janet was a dedicated, reliable and loyal employee at St. John's Byzantine Catholic Pre-School, Fritzingertown Personal Care Home and Donut Connection. She established genuine and lasting relationships with her co-workers and the children, clients and customers she served. Janet considered her work to be far more than just a job.

A near-lifetime member of St. Gabriel Parish, Janet held firm to her Catholic faith, acknowledging God's grace is the reason she could always smile and be thankful despite any cross she was given to bear. Christ was the model who she strived to imitate. For many years Janet was committed to making weekly visits at St. Gabriel's Perpetual Adoration Chapel. She prayed a daily rosary and kept a handwritten list of people whom she promised to pray for. Janet also shared her time and talents volunteering in many capacities: St. Gabriel's Choir, Folk Group, Women's Guild and School, St. John's Catholic Schools Bishop Hafey Mother's Club, The Shepherd's Hands Ministry, Father Walter J. Ciszek Prayer League, Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and Bread Pickup.

Janet loved every moment she got to spend with her grandchildren. Whether shopping for their birthdays, attending their sporting and school events or giving rides to places they needed to go, Nana said "I would do anything for any of them." Given the amount of cheering Janet did at basketball, baseball, soccer and field hockey games, it was fitting that she passed away on the feast of St. Sebastian, who is the patron of athletes.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, William; firstborn son, Kevin and his wife, Marsha; two daughters, Kimberly and Patricia; and her baby, Terrance and his fiancée, Erica Mazaika. Janet is also survived by her loving brother, Gary Smith. Also remaining are her six grandchildren, who are her "pride and joy," Bria, Jillian, Lacie, Nathaniel, Kimber and Joseph.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Annunciation Parish at the Church of St. Gabriel, Hazleton. For anyone who cannot be present in person, the Mass will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of Janet Kringe.

Interment will follow in St. Gabriel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Holy Annunciation Parish at the Church of St. Gabriel, 122 S. Wyoming St., Hazleton, PA 18201, or The Father Walter Ciszek Prayer League, 18 E. Oak St., Shenandoah, PA 17976.
