Jayne, Ryan P.
Ryan P. Jayne, age 22, died on November 3, 2012 while serving his country in the Paktiya Province in Afghanistan. Ryan was born on May 17, 1990 in Elmira, NY, the son of Paul E. Jayne and Kent and Sherry Skeens. Before moving to the Corning area, he attended the Troy Area School District in PA. A 2008 graduate of Corning East High School, he was the recipient of the Judi McCort Memorial Scholarship for exemplifying courage, hard work, responsibility and dependability. He attended Corning Community College before joining the United States Armed Forces on September 1, 2010, with an MOS of 12 Bravo Combat Engineer, specializing in route clearance. Ryan first and foremost had a love of family. He wanted to be a part of every family event. He was always the biggest fan of any of his brothers. No matter what sport was being played, he found himself a front row seat and cheered louder and prouder than anyone else. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and couldn't wait for the start of each season. His pride and joy was the Monte Carlo SS that he was restoring. He took great pride in each and every detail. Ryan loved to laugh, loved to make others smile, and could light up a room with his own smile. Ryan is survived by his father, Paul E. Jayne of Mansfield, PA; his mother and step-father, Sherry and Kent Skeens of Corning, NY; six siblings, Adam Jayne of Canisteo, NY, Emily Skeens of Washington, GA, Jacob Skeens of Corning, NY, Trent Skeens of Corning, NY, Ayzia Jayne of New Albany, PA, and Garrett Skeens of Corning, NY; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Letitia Pine of Waverly, NY, Roger and Sheila Skeens of Burnsville, Mississippi; paternal grandfather, Paul L. Jayne of Monroeton, PA; also several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ryan was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Beverly Jayne. The American Red Cross has organized a flag line route from the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport along Route 352 into the city of Corning on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00AM. The community is invited to stand along the procession route to show honor and respect to our fallen hero and his family as Ryan is brought home. The Red Cross will publish the route prior to Tuesday. Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Corning East High School Auditorium. A service will immediately follow in the auditorium at 8:00PM. Following the funeral service, full military honors will take place at the Corning East High School Stadium. In lieu of flowers, the family asks anyone wishing to donate in Ryan's name to the USO, https://www.uso.org/donate or to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256, CFC #11425. Condolences for Ryan's family may be left at www.carpentersfuneralhome.com. Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC in Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I'm in need of the mailing address of the Jayne family, I have the honor of writing my condolence letter to anyone who knew Ryan personally. Problem is, I have no way of contacting the family, but I really do wish I could get the mailing address to show my respect for this man's sacrifice for his country.

To the parents and family of Ryan P Jayne - we learned of Ryan's sacrifice on behalf of all Americans over the Memorial Day weekend. My wife and I have had a chance to learn a little about Ryan by reading about him on line. What an amazing young man indeed!
While we cannot know the depth if your grief, we do want you to know that our prayers are with all of Ryan's family and loved ones. To the memory of a fine young man who obviously made a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know Ryan, we pray.
Sincerely
Tom and Gerry Donnelly

Ryan honey, I miss you more than words could ever say. Today has been a very hard one for all of us. They played Taps today after the parade in Millerton, PA and 2 guys that love you to death had a pretty hard time. We had a Memorial day party yesterday and a lot of the guys came down. We had 3 crosses put on the cake for you, Brett and Dain. So wish you were here with us to remember our fallen heroes. We love honey and miss you so very much. Until we meet again in a peaceful place. Love you, Lori

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Jayne Family know that we recently sent a donation to the USO in honor of Ryan P. Jayne US Army Specialist. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms, SPC Ryan P. Jayne U.S. Army. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Ryan. And to Ryan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. Ryan you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. No greater love and patriotism are shown than when a man lays down his life in service to his country. Ryan, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Ryan's family and loved ones.
