Barbara M. Velasquez

Big Flats - Passed away suddenly on May 14, 2018 at the age of 48. Barb was born on August 1, 1969 in Buffalo, NY a daughter of the late Melvin and Beatrice Ciszak Kase. After a career in Human Resources, and being drafted into serving her country as an "Army Wife," Barb chose to stay at home to focus on raising her family. While managing a busy household and supporting school, hockey, dancing, lacrosse, and horse-riding (often alone while Dave travelled for work), she still managed to contribute to and lead many charitable causes to include Corning Hospital Auxiliary, School Fundraising, Salvation Army, and Womens' Shelters. Selfless to the end…she will be dearly missed as a mother, wife, aunt, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, sister-in-law and dear friend; and remembered as someone whose smile and touch brought joy and light to all who knew her. Barb is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, David R. Velasquez Jr.; son, Nicholas and daughter Anna Velasquez; sister, Sandra (Andrew) Reil; brothers, Mark Kase and Peter (Veronica) Kase; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David (Lynn) Velasquez Sr.; sister-in-law, Mary Beth (Dan) Dreyer; brother-in-law, Daniel (Deborah) Velasquez and twelve nieces, nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St. at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 4PM - 7PM. Barb's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Lake, Hamburg, NY on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1PM. Barb will be laid to rest in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY at the convenience of the family.
