Larry R. Madden Obituary

Husband of the late JoAnne Madden, passed away on April 1, 2013. Larry was born October 25, 1929 in Wilkes Barre, PA, the son of Lawrence W. and Lauretta Sullivan Madden. He was predeceased by his wife, JoAnne Tuthill Madden in 1988 and daughter-in-law Barb Madden.

Surviving are his children: Kathy and Jeff Williams of Greenville, OH; Karen and Mark Hagan of Elmira, Larry W. Madden of Elmira Heights and Robert and Elsa Madden of Oldsmar, FL. Larry's surviving grandchildren are Stacie, Crissy, Cory and Jeremy Williams, Heather and Dan Beavers, Kelly Durfey, Ashton Mathew Durfey, Ben and Emily Hagan, Anne and Josh Latterell, Maria, Monica and Melaney Madden, and Breanne Gugino. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren.

After his discharge from the Army in 1950, Larry became a long time resident of Corning and Big Flats and enjoyed a 34 year career with Corning, Inc., retiring as a Senior Account Executive in the television glass business.

Larry spent many hours with his many friends at the Horseheads Elks Club. He was a fixture on the kitchen crew there and was awarded the Elk of the Year honor in 1991.

His family will remember him as a happy, fun loving leader who taught them the fine points of euchre, how to bait a hook, that loud-patterned shirts and pants are acceptable casual wear, not to take oneself too seriously and that the bonds of family remain forever tied.

Larry's family wishes to thank the caring staff of Appleridge's Crispin Hill and Arnot Health's 4D Unit for their professionalism and dedication during his final five years.

Friends are invited to calling hours at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Friday April 12, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will honor Larry's life at 10:00 AM on Saturday April 13, 2013 at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 West Broad St., Horseheads, with interment at Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats. In lieu of flowers it is Larry's request that donations be made in his memory to the St. Mary Our Mother School, 811 Westlake St., Horseheads, NY 14845.
