Branchport - Leo Francis Hafer, 92, of Branchport, NY passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Fred & Harriett Taylor Health Center in Bath. Leo was born April 25, 1925 in Albia, Iowa to the late, Zadia and Ulysses S. Grant Hafer. He graduated from Albia, Iowa High School in 1943 and enlisted in the US Marine Corp. Leo was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War serving in post war Japan and was then remobilized as a Reservist to support pre-deployment training for the Korean conflict. He was a chief lineman for NYSEG in Corning, NY and retired after 39 years. He was a member of the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, the Penn Yan Moose Club, and the Johnson-Costello American Legion in Penn Yan and the VFW. Leo is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan E. Thomas Hafer; sons, Gregory Lee (Brenda), Jeffery Lee (Bonnie), and Barry Lee (Michelle); grandchildren, Courtney, Kiersten, Ashleigh, Barry Jr. (Mallorie), Brittany (Nicholas) Glaze, and Christopher (Ashley); and his great grandchildren, Victor, Penelope and Hunter Lee; as well as, several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4pm on Monday, December 18th at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. His funeral service will follow at 4pm at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jeff Childs officiating. Interment will be held at the Branchport Cemetery in Branchport, NY at the convenience of the family.
