Robert Jenkins Obituary
Robert W. Westinghouse Retiree and Boy Scout Leader Age 76 of 361 Hickory Grove Road Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday December 9, 2000 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years Rilla Graves Jenkins. He is also survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Robert J. & Nancy Jenkins of Syracuse, NY and Brian V. & Patricia Jenkins of Warrenville, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law: Marybeth & Edward L. Gronski of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren: Rachel, Madeline and Celeste Jenkins all of Warrenville, Illinois; sister and brother-in-alw: Doris & John Lyon of Binghamton, NY; sister-in-law: Marion Jenkins of Kirkwood, NY; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents Thomas L. and Margaret Bumby Jenkins and his brother, Thomas Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins retired from Westinghouse Corp. in Horseheads, NY in 1985 with over 33 years of service. Bob devoted more than 40 years of service to The Boy Scouts of America and was awarded The Silver Beaver Award, The Order of Arrow Vigil, The Douglas MacArthur Award, The Cross and Flame Award, and various other awards. He was especially proud of his work with disabled scouts. Bob was an active member of The First United Methodist Church of Horseheads. He was a veteran of WW II serving his country with the US Navy. Bob was an avid hunter, fisherman, and ice fisherman. A Celebration of Mr. Jenkins' Life will be held on Tuesday December 12, 2000 at 2 PM at The First United Methodist Church 1034 W. Broad St. Horseheads, NY The Rev. Dr. Robert O. Sherburne and the Rev. Fred Kesley will officiate. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY. The family will provide their own flowers and those wishing may remember Bob through memorial donations to The Five River Council of The Boy Scouts of America 244 W.
