Mitchell, Louis B.

Age 85 of Elmira passed away Monday September 9, 2013 at his home in the care of his loving family. Born on June 17, 1928 in Long Beach, CA, Louis was the son of the late Robert & Velma Henry Mitchell. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Louis married Nancy Schellevis on July 27, 1957 in Odessa. He was employed by Thatcher Glass for over 30 years. His interests included gardening, camping and stamp collecting. Surviving is his loving family, wife and companion of 56 years, Nancy Schellevis Mitchell, Elmira; daughters, Deborah Nihill, St Charles, MO; Rebecca Crawford, Port Byron; Laura Metcalf, Cicero; grandchildren, Janice & Ed Nihill, Matthew & Chelsea Crawford, and Heather & Meagon Metcalf; great grandchildren, Noah & Carson; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Louis was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Mitchell. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Friday September 13, 2013 from 12 noon - 1 p.m. services will follow at 1 p.m. with his pastor, the Rev. Leanne Zeck officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery. The family will provide flowers and requests memorials be directed to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Ave., Elmira, NY 14903 or Meals on Wheels, 150 Fox St. Elmira, NY 14901 in Mr. Mitchell's memory.
