PRATER
Julie Lynn Prater
It was only fitting that JULIE LYNN PRATER became a nurse, as she had always loved helping others. Her sweet smile and infectious laugh were the backbone of a hard-working RN. On Dec. 14, 2020, JULIE passed away after more than six years with a GBM brain tumor. Born on May 12, 1982, JULIE LYNN JUDD was raised by her parents, Debbie and Stephen Judd, in Sherman, TX. She spent time playing volleyball, lifeguarding at the local pool, and gaining lifelong friendships before leaving for Baylor University to follow in the footsteps of her older brother Joe (BU '00) and sister Jamie (BU '02).
At Baylor JULIE joined the sorority Chi Omega, as well as the Baylor Riding Association, riding horses with friends and meeting her best friend, Luke Prater. After graduating with a double major in 2004, JULIE married Luke in 2007 and was whisked away to Fort Worth so she could start nursing school at TCU. A BSN grad in 2008, JULIE started her new career at Texas Health Presbyterian Plano. JULIE and Luke have two children: Judd Wade (7) and June Lane (6).
JULIE brought an unmatched passion whether in work or fun times—like the many trips she enjoyed on the lake with friends and family. JULIE worked hard and played hard, making the most of her days both before and after her diagnosis. The light she brought into the world, her courageous attitude, and the faith and hope she shared with those around her on a daily basis, showed her true spirit.
Donations honoring JULIE can be made to UT Southwestern Medical Center (PO Box 910888, Dallas, TX 75391-0888 or online at
engage.utsouthwestern.edu) to help further research of glioblastoma. No memorial service at this time.
