JAMES H. HOBBS, JR. James "Jim" Henry Hobbs, 73, of Holly Ridge, died Saturday, September 1, 2018, at home. Jim was born June 27, 1945 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late James Henry Hobbs and Mildred Batten Hobbs. His daughter, Sharon Hobbs, and sister, Patricia Meyers, preceded him in death. Jim proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in U.S. Naval Aviation as a navigator / bombardier. He graduated from UNCW with a Bachelor degree in Philosophy and Religion. He was a member of Stump Sound Masonic Lodge 733. Jim enjoyed refurbishing old cars and boats, including an 1864 model Chesapeake "Bugeye" sailboat, which his son, Austin, and best friend, Jared Glick, sailed from North Topsail Island to Florida-Pass, Georgia. Jim's wonderful sense of humor, generosity, and talent for dancing made him loved by many. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hobbs of Sneads Ferry; son, Austin Lee Hobbs and his wife, Angelin, of Raleigh, NC; step-daughter, Tina Moore; grandson, Anthony Penzari; step-grandson, Colton Moore; and companion and caregiver, Jennifer R. Graham. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
