DONALD R. MALLARD Donald Ray Mallard, 84, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully in his home of 81 years on Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was the loving husband of Carolyn (Clemmons) Mallard. Donnie was born in Wilmington, NC, on November 16, 1936, the son of the late Sanders "Buddy" Mallard and Tera Mae Mallard. Donnie overcame many of life's early challenges as a premature baby, and then at age 6 was struck by a car. He was told he wouldn't walk or talk ever again, but Donnie remained persistent and overcame. He was a graduate of New Hanover High. He was a respected member of Southside Baptist Church since the age of 19, and in 1957 Donnie gave his life to Christ and was baptized. Donnie, his mother and little sister Sandy were all faithful members of Southside. Donnie found his love and happiness when he met Carolyn at Southside. He adored her so much. Donnie worked hard and loved his time with the City of Wilmington. For over 40 years, Donnie was well respected by Wilmington's first responders during his role as dispatcher, and then with the city. His co-workers and friends always enjoyed a good cup of coffee with Donnie. Donnie enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams the Braves, Panthers and Tar Heels. He will be missed by all. His family would like to thank everyone for their calls, kind words and deepest sympathies. Donnie is survived by the love of his life Carolyn Mallard, and his sister Sandy Cable (George). He loved his nieces and nephews Steve Cable, Pam Cable, Christi Haste, Beth Knowles (Kevin), and his great-niece and nephews Tyler Knowles, Chloe Jeng, Dakota Haste, and Camden Knowles and great-great niece Ruby Shaw. Funeral Services will be private, and are entrusted to the Andrews Mortuary, Wilmington. Please leave online condolences at www.andrewsmortuary.com In lieu of flowers, donations in Donnie's name may be given to Southside Baptist Church, 3320 S. College Rd, Wilmington, NC 28412.

As I found out about Mr. Mallard, it saddens my heart, he was a very nice and bright man, had so many stories to tell. I know he will miss his wife and she will miss him. I only knew him for a short time but that time was well spent and I will never forget him. My prayers are with his family. Thank you for the memories mr. Mallard

Donald, we will look forward to seeing you in heaven when we meet again. I enjoyed our talks and your encouragement in the Lord. My favorite memory was when you were in the Resurrection Sunday play at your church. Thanks for inviting us and that we can call you friend. We will be praying for your wife, we know how much you cared and loved her.

Living across the street from him and Carolyn I always enjoyed talking with them when I walked my dog and they were on their front porch. He was a lovely man!
