DONALD R. MALLARD Donald Ray Mallard, 84, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully in his home of 81 years on Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was the loving husband of Carolyn (Clemmons) Mallard. Donnie was born in Wilmington, NC, on November 16, 1936, the son of the late Sanders "Buddy" Mallard and Tera Mae Mallard. Donnie overcame many of life's early challenges as a premature baby, and then at age 6 was struck by a car. He was told he wouldn't walk or talk ever again, but Donnie remained persistent and overcame. He was a graduate of New Hanover High. He was a respected member of Southside Baptist Church since the age of 19, and in 1957 Donnie gave his life to Christ and was baptized. Donnie, his mother and little sister Sandy were all faithful members of Southside. Donnie found his love and happiness when he met Carolyn at Southside. He adored her so much. Donnie worked hard and loved his time with the City of Wilmington. For over 40 years, Donnie was well respected by Wilmington's first responders during his role as dispatcher, and then with the city. His co-workers and friends always enjoyed a good cup of coffee with Donnie. Donnie enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams the Braves, Panthers and Tar Heels. He will be missed by all. His family would like to thank everyone for their calls, kind words and deepest sympathies. Donnie is survived by the love of his life Carolyn Mallard, and his sister Sandy Cable (George). He loved his nieces and nephews Steve Cable, Pam Cable, Christi Haste, Beth Knowles (Kevin), and his great-niece and nephews Tyler Knowles, Chloe Jeng, Dakota Haste, and Camden Knowles and great-great niece Ruby Shaw.
