George Lerose Obituary
GEORGE LEROSE George Lerose of Wilmington NC and formerly of Westfield NJ and White Plains NY died peacefully on January 10, 2019 surrounded by family. He was born in Danbury CT on December 16, 1935 to Vincenzo and Rosina Carbonella Lerose. George graduated from Danbury High School in 1954 and then served in the U S Navy for 4 years as a Medical Technician. Taking advantage of the G. I. Bill's education opportunities, he received a B.S. in Education degree from Danbury State College in 1963. He furthered his education at American University and Fairfield University. Although he worked at NASA for a few years, he found his calling with a career in the classroom as a gifted, respected high school math teacher. George's first love was family. He was a loving and much-loved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Theresa, sisters Rosemary Russell (Raymond Conroy) of Brookfield CT, Frances Ferris of Ashburn VA, and Catherine Koren (Paul) of Vienna VA, brothers-in-law Arthur Salvitti (Karen) of Batesville IN, Stephen Salvitti (Jane) of Kernersville NC, Peter Salvitti (DeeAnn) of Washington Courthouse OH, and John Salvitti (Pamela) of Greensboro NC, daughters Justine Collins (Michael) of Pleasantville NY, Alexandra Leclair (Juan) of Cary NC, and Rachel Lerose (Michael Gombos) of South Portland ME, 10 grandchildren Hannah, Michael, Catherine, Sarah, Lucian, Clare, Austin, Cecilia, Sophie, and Matthew, and many nieces and nephews. His love of golf brought him to Wilmington, which more than satisfied his criteria for a retirement home: a long golf season. He worked hard to hold his single-digit handicap, a personal challenge later replaced by a more recent goal to shoot his age. But most of all, he enjoyed the fun and camaraderie of his golf buddies. George often had a woodworking project in process for a family member or friend. His other pastimes included photography, cooking, poker, reading, the stock market, bird feeding, duck feeding, and crossword puzzles. He was proud of his Italian roots. As the patriarch of the Lerose family, he passed on the family lore in often-told stories. George was a faithful, prayerful Catholic. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday January 15 at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St, Wilmington NC. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Keane at 11:00 am Wednesday January 16 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Rd, Wilmington NC. Internment in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury CT will be scheduled at a later date. The family would like to thank NHRMC's General Surgery doctors and nurses for their excellent care and support. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's memory to his favorite charity, , P.O. Box 1000 Dept.142, Memphis TN 38148-0142. Condolences to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com
