KIMBERLY ANN BATCHELOR

Kimberly Ann Batchelor, of Hampstead, NC, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 7, 2013 after a long courageous fight with a rare form of cancer, leptomeningeal-oligodendrogliomatosis.

Kimberly was a student at Topsail Middle School. She was an avid N.C. State Wolfpack fan and enjoyed playing basketball and softball. She also loved the outdoors and going to school, maintaining her place on the A Honor Roll even throughout her battle with cancer.

Kimberly was born on December 8, 1999, the daughter of Shona Batchelor and the late Kelly Batchelor. She is survived by her mother, and stepfather, Trent Talbert; sister, Katelyn, brother, Justin; stepbrothers, Cole and Issac Talbert; paternal grandparents, Ray and Phyllis Batchelor; maternal grandmother, Pat Rogers; uncles, Brian Parker, Chase Rogers, and Kevin Batchelor (wife, Mindy); cousins, Megan and Ashley Batchelor; and her very special C-PAL friend, Megan Shea, who spent endless hours with Kimberly during her days in Chapel Hill.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. John Hipps and the staff at Chapel Hill for the continuous care that was given to Kimberly and to Lower Cape Fear Hospice who were with her in the last month. Also, a special acknowledgement to all the Fighting For Kimberly (FFK) family members for their love, dedication and support.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road in Wilmington.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday at Scotts Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Owen Carriker officiating. Pallbearers will be Shane Moran, Jeff Pitts, David Garner, Jeff Neely, Andy Talbert and Charlie Baker. Interment will follow in Topsail Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Kimberly's memory to UNC-CH Children's Hospital, 880 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.

To Shona and the rest of Kimberly's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Kimberly inspired me in many ways while working with her at the hospital and I always enjoyed spending time with her. My heart goes out to you all during this difficult time. I hate that I was not able to attend either her memorial service or funeral. Please know how many lives Kimberly and her family touched at NC Children's Hospital and how we are all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. May you find peace and healing with time and know that Kimberly is watching over all of us in Heaven:)
Sincerely,

There are no words that can be said at this time to help ease your pain. But please know that there are many, many people who are praying for you and your family during this very difficult time. As a parent we all want our children to grow up and have some kind of positive impact in this world, even though Kimberly lived a very short life, she had a great impact on countless people. Her legacy is so great and she will never be forgotten. Kimberly's life has united this Hampstead community. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. God Bless.

I came across Kimberly's obituary while looking for another one to sign. As a mother of a midde schooler, my heart is just hurting for the family and community. Please know that other people you don't know will be deeply touch by your loss, especially a mother in Greensboro, NC. May God give you comfort as the days go on. With deepest sympathy and thoughts of faith, hope and most of all love.

Shona, I know that the loss seems to put a void in your life. But I know that you must feel so blessed to have watched the lives that were touched by Kimberly. Just as I felt with Clay. I am sure that I haven't had that impact and I am much older. My heart hurts for you, and I pray that your heart will find peace. Love you pretty girl..

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I did not know Kimberly personally but I did know of her struggle with cancer thru all of the fund raisers in the Hampstead community. I am a bus driver for Topsail Middle School & my husband & I lost our son at the age of 16. So I know your feelings of grief & dispair. I pray God grants you all peace & comfort in the difficult days ahead.

What a sweet spirit our earthly home has lost. Kimberly leaves behind a legacy of courage and kindness. As her 5th grade reading teacher, I can attest to the fact this young lady was so sweet, hard-working, and had a caring concern for others. She will be sorely missed, until we meet again. Prayers of peace and comfort go to her family and friends.

We didnt see it at the time, but Kimberly was an angel sent to us from the beginning. She has taught us many things, but especially the importance of love, humanity, and faith. Through out her fight she had remained positive and a true inspiration to us all. Thank you, Kimberly for letting us all into your life. Love, the Radleys

Gone too soon but her legacy will live on. She was a teacher in many ways and for this I'm eternally grateful. She showed us humanity was back, live life, fight and smile while doing it but most importantly how to love one another. Shona, thank you for sharing your daughter far and near. Kimberly left her footprints on thousands of hearts, she had no idea. I never got to meet any of you but felt like family. Only a warrior can bring peace, now our leader is at peace. Rest with the best sweet Kimberly. God bless all of you at this time and time to come.
