W.C. Lanier Obituary
W.C. LANIER William Clifford Lanier, age 71, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. He was born February 1, 1947, in Jacksonville, NC, and was the son of Admah Lanier, Jr., and Maebelle Wilson Lanier. He is survived by Christine Roller Lanier, his wife of 46 years, a daughter Christy Coughlin and her fiancé Mike McMillion, and granddaughter Alyssa Coughlin. He is also survived by his mother, brothers Neil Lanier (Kathy) and Dean Lanier (Susan), both of Burgaw, and a sister Kay Rochelle (Ed) of Wilmington, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father. W. C. was a true people person, never met a stranger, and was loved by friends far and wide. His generous spirit prompted him to share his time, talents, etc. His special place for gatherings was under the Weeping Willow in his own yard. A true entrepreneur W. C. owned and operated several businesses including, Scotts Hill Marina, Lanier Marine, Lanier Sporting Goods, the Cape Fear Farm Show, and a few that dealt with silk screening and advertising. His love of the outdoors prompted him to create Cape Fear Wildlife Expo to promote family participation in the out of doors. He also established the Rice Festival and Barbeque Festival. The family extends a special thank you to those at NHRMC and Lower Cape Fear Hospice who provided excellent and tender care for him. Visitation will be at 2:00 followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 on Friday, May 18th, at Scotts Hill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center at 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC, 28401.
